Á þessari hljómplötu eru öll tíu lögin, sem komust í úrslit í danslagakeppni Ríkisútvarpsins, sem fram fór í útvarpsþœttinum Á góðri stund veturinn 1966. Og til að hafa tólf lög á plötunni þá er tveimur lögum bœtt við. Það fyrra ber nafnið Vinarhugur og hlaut það önnur verðlaun í danslagakeppni SKT 1961. Síðara lagið kom hins vegar fram í fyrstu danslagakeppni, sem fram fór á Íslandi. Var það veturinn 1938 að Hótel Íslandi. Lagið heitir Anna-Maja.
Fyrsta lagið á þessari plötu er útsett af Þóri Baldurssyni í Savanna-tríóinu, en hin ellefu lögin eru útsett af Magnúsi Ingimarssyni og annast hljómsveit undir hans stjórn undirleik. Söngvarar eru allir hinir sömu á plötunni og sungu lögin í útvarpinu, en að Savannatríóinu meðtöldu eru þetta þrettán söngvarar. Þetta er þvi fjölbreyttasta platan í þessum dúr, sem út hefur verið gefin á Íslandi. Íslenzkir, textar, íslenzk lög, íslenzkir hljóðfœraleikarar og íslenzkir söngvarar. Þjóðleg og skemmtileg hljómplata.


Those who do not know much about Icelandic popular music might well believe that there is no basis for a songwriters' contest in this field. Quite the opposite is true, however. Pop music contests have been held in Iceland at a few years' intervals right since 1938, invariably with some excellent results. After the 1961 contest there was an interval of five years, so in the first half of 1966 the Icelandic State Radio sponsored one. About 100 songs were entered for the contest, 10 of which were selected for the finals. All these 10 songs appear on this record as well as two numbers from earlier contests to complete the album. These songs have not been recorded. Each number is interpreted by a different vocalist so that all the best known and most experienced singers of pop music in Iceland are represented.

Some of the songwriters, such as Jenni Jóns and Theodór Einarsson, are well established in the sphere of pop music and have received prizes for their songs in earlier contests. But we also have here some new recruits to this art, e.g. Hjörtur Guðbjartsson and Ingólfur Sveinsson, who are responsible for excellent songs on this record.

All music is said to be international in caracter. The fact remains, however, that the music rendered on this record is first and foremost Icelandic: There are Icelandic songs, Icelandic lyrics, Icelandic singers, and Icelandic musicians. As a whole it would constitute a splendid suovenir from Iceland.
