This unofficial release copies the mistake on other similar LPs by listing Eddie Barefield on trumpet, he played alto saxophone and clarinet in Duke Ellington's band.

Johnny Hodges is listed as playing soprano saxophone on the 1947 selections, but everything I have read says he gave up the instrument after 1940. I am listing it anyway until I get a chance to hear this LP again. Hodges is omitted from the credits to the 1944 Carnegie Hall concert, though he is listed on the Prestige 2 LP set of that same concert. None of the selections on this Rarities LP appear on the Prestige LP. Since his sound is so distinctive, it is unlikely that he is not present on these tracks.

Personnel listed for tracks A1 to A6 differ significantly from published discographies. There is consensus that only Ellington, Taft Jordan, Ray Nance, Lawrence Brown, Johnny Hodges, Al Sears, Harry Carney, Oscar Pettiford and Sonny Greer appeared on "Saturday Night Swing Session" in a "Twentieth Anniversary Salute to Duke Ellington", which is the WNEW broadcast from which these tracks derive. Absent from this date were Shelton Hemphill, Francis Williams, Harold Baker, Eddie Barefield, Claude Jones, Wilbur de Paris, Jimmy Hamilton, Russell Procope and Fred Guy. Moreover, on "Moon Mist" (track A6), the piano player is [a258464 and he's accompanied only by Ray Nance on this selection.

Personnel listed for tracks A7 to B2 also differ from published sources. Notably, [a749721 (trumpet) and [a325855 (trombone) were present, whereas Eddie Barefield is not listed in these discographies.

Personnel listed for the Carnegie Hall date (tracks B3 to B6) align with those in published discographies.
